During HORECA exhibition, on Sunday, February 13 at 14:00 in conference room C2 of the Metropolitan Expo, George Pittas presented his book “Gastronomic Communities” and the project, from which the book was inspired, and includes 11 gastronomic communities from all over Greece.
George Pittas started in 2018, the action “Gastronomic Communities”, a program that aims to make Greek gastronomy a lever for the development of the local economy, a springboard for tourism development, but also to play a key role in shaping the cultural identity of each place.
The main idea of the program is the organization of professionals in the wider field of gastronomy (production-catering-hospitality) in various parts of the country, in order to utilize the gastronomic resources available in their place, and the connection of the agri-food sector with gastronomy and tourism.
Four years later, George Pittas in his latest book entitled “Gastronomic Communities”, which was presented during the event, recounts the beginning of the program from which the book was inspired. The recently published book is an overview of the “Gastronomy & Wine Tourism” program and all its aspects such as education, resources, protagonists, methodology, creation of communication material, promotional strategy of the destinations, and the benefits for the local communities.
